"I believe a good fit between therapist and client is crucial to successful therapy. I love my work and it is a privilege and pleasure to share in my clients' journeys towards growth, development and healing."

- Dr. Jennifer Panning

I offer a personalized treatment approach to fit your unique needs. I value many types of therapeutic methods and am skilled in both short-term and longer-term psychotherapy. Helping clients understand and accept their emotions, accept and care for their bodies, and accept the person they are (rather than having or succumbing to unrealistic expectations) is my goal no matter what form our sessions may take.

I believe that therapy is a collaborative process. With my clients, my role may take different forms, such as:

  • Empathic and attentive listener
  • Guide to help clients understand themselves and their lives better
  • Coach to support you in reaching your goals and achieving your potential
  • Teacher of techniques and lifestyle changes to support your goals
  • Mentor
  • Witness to grief or pain
  • Supporter and accountability holder

Because I believe that individuals are unique and complex, I practice psychotherapy from an integrative approach. Some theories and models that I draw from include:

  • Existential therapy
  • Positive psychology
  • Cognitive-behavioral therapy
  • Attachment theory
  • Interpersonal process theory

For more information regarding my treatment approach and philosophy, please see Approach.

I have helped women, men and adolescents cope with a variety of life issues. If any of these questions fit how you have been feeling lately, I may be able to help you as well:

  • Do you find yourself getting stuck in negative or upsetting thought patterns?

  • Are you experiencing insomnia or other sleeping troubles?

  • Are you distressed by any relationships with a parent, spouse, significant other, sibling or even a new boyfriend or girlfriend who seems to be stirring up a wide range of emotions? Do you have trouble setting boundaries or establishing healthy relationships?

  • Do you find yourself facing a major life transition that is stressing you out, such as being newly married or a new parent?

  • Is your job or career undergoing unheaval in any way either with a change in jobs, a change in careers or extended unemployment?

  • Are you a college student struggling with excessive weight loss, weight gain or a more serious eating disorder, such as anorexia or bulimia? Do you have negative feelings about your body shape or feel ashamed about your body in any way?

  • Do you consider yourself an overacheiver? Do you pressure yourself to be perfect, but feel over-committed, over-scheduled and out of balance?

  • Would you like some help or comfort dealing with the illness or loss of a loved one? Has some trauma had a lasting impact on your daily life?

  • Have you lost your energy or passion for things you used to enjoy? Are you experiencing symptoms of depression (such as deep sadness, anxiety, lethargy, isolation) and feel unable to function the way you used to?

  • Do you feel like your life is somewhat on track, but that you know you could get more for yourself? Would you benefit from some professional coaching for overall emotional growth and development?

If you are experiencing any of these situations and want some help and guidance, call me to start improving your health and your life with the support and guidance you deserve.
